MONTHLY TALK - GARY THOMAS ............................................................... Date: Thursday, 02 February 2012 Time: 7pm (doors 6.30pm) Venue: Lighthouse, 28 Kensington Street, Brighton BN1 4AJ Tickets: £3 ............................................................... Step behind the scenes and get a glimpse of the thinking motivating the digital world's greatest artists, filmmakers, thinkers and doers with Lighthouse's Monthly Talks. Gary Thomas, Director of Animate Projects is our February 2012 speaker. Gary Thomas is Director of Animate Projects, the only arts charity in the UK dedicated to championing experimental animation. Gary will be talking about the work of Animate and their recent Digitalis programme. Gary was previously Head of Moving Image at Arts Council England, where he initiated the Single-Shot and Necessary Journeys projects with the BFI and the UK Film Council, and the Artists’ Moving Image Legacy and Learning programme. Since 1990, Animate has been commissioning new artists’ work, and supporting and developing exceptional work in animated moving image. Animate supports artists to take risks, providing the opportunity to explore new forms, tools and processes, and to create radical new work. The Animate Collection is also internationally renowned as an online resource of experimental animation. Recent Animate commissions and exhibitions include: did I? by Hiraki Sawa; …in a rose columned forest by Edwina Ashton; Slow Action by Ben Rivers; Primitive by Apichatpong Weerasethakul; Digitalis Commissions by Adam Butcher, Lizzie Hughes, James Lowne and Matilda Tristram; and Animate OPEN: Digitalis. http://www.animateprojects.org
